Dear Friends in Christ our King,
In an age filled with constant speech, meaningful words require the discipline of silence. The proverb reminds us that while speech is silver, silence is gold.
Saint Joseph, whom we celebrate in today’s feast, embodies this truth. Though present at the most sacred moments of Christ’s life, he speaks not a single recorded word in the Gospels. His silence made him a perfect listener. He was attentive to God’s voice in dreams and prompt in obedience. Without hesitation or complaint, he followed each divine command.
In the same way, we must learn to withdraw from the noise and distractions around us, avoiding unnecessary chatter so that we may better hear God and speak words that truly matter!
God still speaks to us, though not always in extraordinary ways. He is present in the Mass, in Holy Communion, and in the confessional. He speaks through Scripture, spiritual reading, and the wise counsel of those around us. Yet, we often fail to hear Him, because our hearts are preoccupied with worldly concerns. Like Saint Joseph, we must cultivate interior silence and attentiveness, becoming both listeners and doers of God’s will.
