Dear Friends in Christ our King,
Advent begins, but we have much to be excited about! Our spiritual patron, St. Francis de Sales, loved the upcoming feast of the Nativity, for which Holy Mother Church prepares herself, for this very mystery: the eternal Son of God chose to appear not in overpowering majesty, but in the disarming weakness of a newborn Babe.
Had He come as a mighty conqueror, He would have subdued us by fear. Instead, He came as a little Child to draw our hearts with love. The smile of the Christ Child melts our pride and softens our resistance, showing us that God’s truth is lovable and meant for our good. Content with the simplicity of the stable, patient in the flight into Egypt, obedient in Joseph’s workshop, helpful in Mary’s home, the Infant King teaches us that sanctity is attainable, that holiness grows through small, faithful steps. In Him we see perfectly expressed our Institute’s motto, Veritatem facientes in caritate: living the truth always in and through charity.
Look again upon the Divine Infant, whose left hand holds the globe crowned with the Cross while His right hand is raised in blessing. More than Judge or distant Sovereign, Christ our King reveals Himself as a Father who came not to condemn the world but to save it.
