Dear Friends in Christ our King,
Having entered in the season of Lent, we cannot help but notice that this month of March glitters with the radiance of many saints. Of particular note are three solemn feasts that we will celebrate later this month: Saint Thomas Aquinas (March 7) and Saint Benedict (March 21), secondary patrons of the Institute of Christ the King. In between these two patrons is the feast of Saint Joseph.
Saint Joseph is Patron of the Universal Church, as declared by Bl. Pope Pius IX. Indeed, he is a spiritual father for all of us members of the Holy Catholic Church. The Holy Family, over which Joseph ruled with the authority of a father, contained within itself the first beginnings of the Church.
So, even as Mary is the Mother of the Church because she is the Mother of Christ, so also is St. Joseph the Protector of Holy Church because he was the guardian of Jesus and Mary.
